Department of Physics
Bridging Academia and Industry in Physics
The Department of Physics at BITS Pilani is supported by UGC-DRS-SAP and DST-FIST, and is renowned for breakthroughs in research that are spread across verticals like Optical and Plasma Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology, High Energy Physics, etc. The Department is also regularly visited by experts and scholars from Academia and industry for technical and popular talks adding to the vibrant academic culture of sharing and collaboration.
The students of the Physics Club organise Physics Week as part of APOGEE (a technical festival of the institute) and those of the Astronomy club conduct periodic observation sessions.

Our Vision
and Mission
Vision: To become a leading physics department in India, excelling in both scientific research and innovative teaching and learning, while keeping pace with the evolving knowledge domains. It shall emerge as an attractive destination for excellent students and the faculty. The Department of Physics aspires to be highly ranked among its peer institutes.
Mission:
To provide a high-quality teaching and learning experience through our first degree and Ph.D. programmes. The department is committed to achieving excellence in research in diverse areas of pure and applied physics.
Teaching Excellence: Excellence in teaching has always been a primary imperative of the department. It periodically reviews and redesigns existing courses, introduces new courses and programmes geared towards current research and industry. It explores new dimensions in teaching and learning, utilising various platforms and methodologies. The department is continually strengthening its existing programmes.
Research Excellence: The department's faculty members conduct research in nearly all major areas of Physics. The department is now vigorously scaling up its research activity and giving it more visibility. The volume of research publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and the research funding received by the department have been increasing steadily.
