A Legacy of Excellence in Mathematical Sciences Since 1944
Founded in 1944 as part of the Birla Science College, the department was merged with the Institute in 1964. The department has a highly motivated faculty with varied specialisations in Mathematical sciences, thereby providing a unique opportunity for students to pursue their research interests either in core mathematical sciences or interdisciplinary areas of sciences, engineering and technology. The department is dedicated to training students to be future leaders in engineering and the sciences.

Ashish Tiwari

Dr. Ashish Tiwari is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and is also the Head Of the Department at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus. He joined the department in December 2011 and his primary research area is fluid mechanics. Dr. Tiwari completed his D.Phil. in Mathematics in 2010 from University of Allahabad after finishing his M.Sc. in Mathematics from the same university in 2003. He has also performed remarkably in qualifying the CSIR-UGC NET exam in Mathematical Sciences two times: one for Junior Research Fellowship and other for Lectureship. Dr. Tiwari is also a life member of several professional societies like Indian Science Congress Association, Indian Society of Biomechanics and Indian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics which exhibits his engagement with the greater scientific community.
