Department of Chemistry

Since its inception in 2008, the Department of Chemistry at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus has earned a strong reputation in both national academia and the global research community. The department is devoted towards high-quality teaching and cutting-edge research in various fields of chemistry. Our ‘Vision’ as well as ‘Mission’ is to excel in teaching, innovative research and industry engagement and to disseminate the same in order to become a world leader in the field of chemistry and allied interdisciplinary areas. The Department offers the Integrated M.Sc. programme at the first degree level (dual degree with engineering programme). At higher degree level, the department offers M. Phil. and Ph. D. programme. In recent years, the department has enhanced its industry-academia partnerships via offering Work Integrating Learning programme (WILP) courses. The primary research thrust areas of the department include, but not exclusive to, synthetic organic chemistry, green chemistry, medicinal chemistry, bio-inorganic chemistry, chemical biology, nanomaterials, polymers, molecular materials, self-assembly, environmental analytical chemistry, solid state chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, electrochemistry, laser spectroscopy, photochemistry and computational chemistry. Equipped with cutting-edge research facilities and extensive library resources, such as e-journals, the department is committed in maintaining its high standards of excellence in academic and research activities in the years ahead.
