About the Department

Established in August 2008, the Department of Chemical Engineering at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus has grown into a leading center of excellence in chemical engineering education and research. The department offers B.E., M.E., Ph.D. programs, along with minors in Materials Science and Engineering and Work-Integrated Learning Programs for professionals, currently serving around 200 UG and PG students. Key strengths include expert faculty, state-of-the-art labs, and vibrant research in areas like catalysis, materials science, colloids, polymers, electrochemical engineering, and modeling, yielding 70+ annual publications, patents, and ₹12 crore in funded projects from DST, DBT, and others. The hallmark Practice School program immerses students in industry for real-world problem-solving, while successful alumni lead in industry, research, and entrepreneurship.

Mission: Our Mission includes imparting quality education and training in chemical engineering and associated fields to enable the students to imbibe technical and analytical skills through the culture of logical and critical thinking. We aim at inculcating a sense of social and environmental responsibility among students. BITS Pilani vouches to establish modern infrastructure and conducive research environment for carrying out academic and sponsored research. Additionally, we want to foster a spirit of excellence and professional leadership in students and faculty members through exposure to leading academic institutions, research organisations and external experts and give them suitable opportunities for sustained interaction as well as collaboration with academia and industry.

The Department of Chemical Engineering is working on diverse research areas such as: Process Development, Reaction Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Polymers and Composites, Catalysis, Mathematical Modelling and Simulation, Biomaterials, Pulp and Paper Technology, Fuel Cells, Environmental Pollution Control, Material Science and Nanotechnology. The research outcomes are regularly published in high impact journals and conferences.
