TBI@BITS Hyderabad aims to provide a low-cost and resource-intensive sandbox where entrepreneurs can develop their product, services or process ideas towards commercialisation. TBI@BITS Hyderabad provides office and lab space, equipment, seed funding and, vitally, mentorship from an international network of successful business leaders.

Innovation Ecosystem: From ICT and Biotech to Breakthrough Startups

Empanelled and vetted professionals have been engaged to provide the following services:

  • Biotech/Pharma lab of 2000SFT, with 5 individual lab spaces and a 1000SFT common area. Common equipment includes an industrial-grade centrifuge, tabletop centrifuges and a mammalian cell culture room, among others.
  • MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) lab of 2650 SFT. Common equipment includes high–end circuit design software, as well as silicon wafer processing equipment such as a spin coater, wet bench, probe station and thin-film depositor.
  • The “ICT for Healthcare” lab, measuring 1200 square feet, features smartphones for app development and diagnostic applications, as well as high-end servers.
  • Common facilities include photocopiers, Scanners, fax machines, high-speed internet, Printers, Telephone Lines, Teleconferencing facilities and a Meeting/Conference room with projection equipment.

    Paxport Web Services Pvt. Ltd..:


    Applytics develops software and hardware for preventing counterfeit drugs and other merchandise at the retail level. A manufacturer-controlled central database holds unique IDs of all items. A text message or 2D scan from a consumer quickly checks for authenticity and alerts the consumer before they make the purchase. Applytics is also developing a miniature 2D scanner designed as an accessory for smartphones.


    Idea 3D :


    Idea3D is developing alternative filaments for 3D printing. Currently, the Fused Deposition Modelling 3D printing industry uses ABS and PLA for filaments. ABS is petroleum-based and not environmentally friendly, and PLA is biodegradable only under controlled conditions. Idea3D is developing much cheaper filaments from starch and vegetable proteins that are completely environmentally friendly. Idea3D is funded by the Department of Biotechnology’s Biotech Ignition Grant Scheme. The key founder is a chemical engineering researcher from the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus.


    XBITS Pvt Ltd :


    XBITS is developing cutting-edge and affordable diagnostic technologies. The initial products in their pipeline are

    • A novel diagnostic kit to detect Urinary Tract Infections, which provides results in 3 hours as compared to the traditional 48 hours and
    • A glucose detection kit which is an order of magnitude cheaper than current commercial options.

    Funded by the Department of Biotechnology’s SPARSH grant scheme, xBITS’ founders are accomplished researchers from the Department of Biological Sciences, BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus.


    Digipartment is developing a suite of tools that help :

    • hospitals manage patient flow, doctor schedules, etc, and
    • Real estate and construction companies manage site visits, apartment bookings, and other related tasks.

    PSPR 3D Tech TM :


    PSPR 3D Tech TM (Prosthetic Solutions for Productive Rehabilitation through 3D Printing TechnologiesTM) is a trademarked brand for affordable and innovative artificial limbs for patients in India and other developing countries. So far, the company has successfully developed an affordable, below-knee prosthesis using reverse engineering and 3D printing technologies, thereby eliminating the use of environmentally hazardous plaster of Paris. The company's standard version of a below-knee prosthesis costs less than Rs. 15,000, which is significantly lower than other brands available in the market, while offering superior quality of fit and improved durability. This product has already undergone fourteen clinical tests, during which all patients reported the best comfort provided by the PSPR 3D TechTM product compared to other brands of prostheses they had previously worn. Extended clinical tests of the product are in progress. The research on below-knee prostheses by this startup company is supported by a grant from DBT-BIRAC through IKP Knowledge Park under the BIG-5 scheme. The company is hosted in Room No. 4, TBI, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus and has a collaboration with Share-India/Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences, Medchal, Hyderabad. The company has been jointly founded by Prof. Srinivasa Prakash Regalla (BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, 9010202879, regalla@hyderabad.bits-pilani.ac.in) as Director, Prof. Prakash N. Shrivastava (University of Southern California, USA & MIMS, Hyderabad, pshriva@usc.edu) as Director, and Mr P. V. Shyam (Alumnus of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, 1993shyam@gmail.com) as Research Manager. The company has so far provided several BITS students with the opportunity to work in an industrial, product-oriented research environment while pursuing their studies.     Yogee’s BioInnovations Pvt Ltd :


    Y’S is focused on preclinical drug discovery and diagnostics, covering a range of therapeutic areas, including cancer, neuropathic pain (including diabetic neuropathy), metabolic disorders, infectious diseases (including TB and ESKAPE infections), and neurological disorders. For disease diagnosis, the current focus is on oncology. Y’S is founded by accomplished research professors from the Department of Pharmacy, BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus.


    Naturlich Global Beverages Pvt Ltd :


    Naturlich Global Beverages, a health drink company founded by University of Sheffield graduates, has its first product, PureSoul, a non-alcoholic, novel functional beverage naturally fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, produced through the microbial fermentation of natural raw materials such as grains and fruits. Health drinks are the future of the global beverage market, as many people are shifting towards a healthy lifestyle, leading to an increase in demand for health drinks or the Nutraceuticals market as a whole, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 21%. PureSoul is a prebiotic product developed using our innovative technology to address obesity, diabetes and vitamin B-12 deficiency. Naturlich is funded by the Department of Biotechnology’s Biotech Ignition Grant Scheme.


    WeMakeScholars.com :


    We Make Scholars (WMS) is an online platform that provides information on study opportunities, scholarships, internships & educational service providers globally. We aim to connect the world through education by providing the right opportunities. WMS is a not-for-profit startup with its roots developed in accordance with a social entrepreneurship model, building the entire venture in a community-oriented way, taking valuable input from students who supported the project, sharing their experiences and needs that needed to be addressed. The growth of our portal accelerated because students couldn’t find a single place where opportunities like scholarships, internships, courses, and universities were accessible via smart sorting based on user preferences. Even before the launch, the idea had backing from at least 160,000 students via communities, providing great support & involvement during the website's development process, which helped shape it to meet the needs of prospective students relative to their personal experiences.


    BoneGraft Technologies :


    BoneGraft, founded by an orthopaedic surgeon, is developing a bone substitute matrix material impregnated with bone growth factors. The team is funded by the Department of Biotechnology’s Biotech Ignition Scheme.


    MLPA Tech :


    MLPA Tech is developing a device that enables inexpensive and quick genetic diagnostics of copy number variants. The team, funded by the Biotech Ignition Grant Scheme, comprises a faculty researcher from the Department of Biological Sciences as well as experts in optics and healthcare IT.
