We Answered.

At BITS Pilani, the Ph.D in Physics is a research-intensive doctorate guided by active faculty across campuses, with work spanning experimental and theoretical fronts in modern physics.

At BITS Pilani, you’ll take department-approved coursework, clear a qualifier, meet a review committee regularly and complete a thesis under your advisor’s guidance.

BITS Pilani considers applicants meeting the institute's minimum criteria for admission (generally 60% in the qualifying degree), with departments allowed to set stricter criteria. Physics typically expects an M.Sc. (Physics) or equivalent.

You can pursue Physics at Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa and Hyderabad campuses within the institute’s doctoral portfolio.

At BITS Pilani, active topics include condensed-matter and quantum materials, optics/quantum optics, spintronics, microfluidics/soft matter, astrophysics and gravitation, mathematical physics and and more—supported by faculty-led groups.

Shortlisted candidates at BITS Pilani take a common fundamentals test (Test-I) and a Physics-specific test (Test-II) with MCQs (negative marking applies), followed by interview; some national-fellowship holders are exempt.

BITS Pilani Physics departments host teaching/research labs and access central instrumentation; institute facility lists include spectroscopy, reactors, microscopy and analytical platforms supporting experimental work.

Yes, eligible full-time Ph.D. scholars at BITS Pilani receive fellowships. Institute Fellows are offered ₹37,000 monthly, with a possible increase to ₹40,000–₹42,000 after two years, along with ₹20,000 annual contingency.

BITS Pilani also admits part-time Ph.D scholars who meet academic minimums and have at least one year of relevant work experience; departmental criteria apply.
