Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering. Established in 1959, it is one of the oldest departments in the country. Over the years, the department has nurtured bright, able civil engineers. The department has expertise in almost the entire spectrum of civil engineering. The department has been constantly involved in a range of consultancy projects and has achieved outstanding recognition, ranking 201-275 globally in the QS World University Rankings 2025 and holding the position of Rank 1 private university in India.

Dr. Dipendu Bhunia is a highly regarded civil engineer and educator who is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus. He received his B.E. and M.E. degrees from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur (now known as IIEST Shibpur) in Howrah in 2000 and 2003, respectively and completed his Ph.D. in the year 2010 from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. His research interests are in performance-based seismic design, earthquake-resistant design of structures, concrete technology and structural health monitoring. Dr. Bhunia's primary concern is related to improving the resilience and sustainability of structures and he has made outstanding contributions towards facilitating improved earthquake engineering and modern concrete practices.
