Established in 1944, we are one of the oldest departments on the campus. The department has grown with strong research interests in Physical Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, etc.
Equipped with a state-of-the-art instrumentation facility and research laboratories, we are counted amongst the best departments for education in Chemistry across the country.

Mission:

- To promote innovative research in the fields of physical, organic, inorganic, bioorganic, medicinal and computational chemistry, to find solutions to experience-derived needs and challenges in the real world.

Dr. Inamur Rahaman Laskar
Pilani | Chemistry
Dr. Inamur Rahaman Laskar is a very reputed chemist who works at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus as a faculty. He graduated with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Calcutta (India) and further attained a Ph.D. in the Indian Association to the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. He also received a postdoctoral education in Taiwan and Japan. His areas of interest are photoluminescent materials, sensors and sophisticated coordination chemistry. He has also been awarded the fellowship of Japan Society of Promotion of Science (JSPS). He has developed effective research partnerships with UK (Durham University, Oxford University) and Spanish (University of Barcelona) and top institutions and organisations in India (such as DRDO, BARC, NPL, IISER Mohali, IIT Bombay).
