Building Scientific Foundations for Future Disciplines

The Department of General Sciences has formed the academic backbone of BITS Dubai Campus by delivering imperative courses in Chemical Engineering, Civil and Architectural Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Biotechnology, supporting all six engineering disciplines. Since 2000, the department is committed to making scientific concepts accessible, pertinent and deeply connected to real-world engineering applications.

Led by Director Prof. Souri Banerjee, the department is dedicated to shaping students into competent, forward-thinking professionals. The faculty have advanced degrees from esteemed universities/institutions, including IIT, ISI, BHU, Anna University, AMU and Jadavpur University. Many bring global exposure through doctoral and postdoctoral work, international research collaborations and scientific visits across the USA, Japan, Singapore, China, Canada, Germany, Spain, Australia and the UK.

Apart from strong academic foundations, the department also nurtures critical thinking, problem solving as well as personal growth with the help of industrial visits, expert talks and exciting competitions. The goal is simple- to entrust bright minds with essential skills, clarity and confidence to thrive in their academic and professional journeys.
